Flavor Fridays: Crab patties on San Andres Island

This photo forms part of a photo series called Flavor Fridays. Each week, we feature one dish that the Flavors of Bogota team has given its seal of approval.

Dish name

Crab patty

Description

These patties are (obviously) made with crab, an abundant raw material in the waters surrounding San Andrés Island. We found these at a fair table – fair tables are set up by local residents in the evenings and on the weekends to attract neighbors to buy their delicious homemade food items.

To prepare the patty, cabbage and spices are cooked with shredded crab meat and tucked inside wheat flour dough that is folded over to form the turnover, and then they’re fried. The result is a slightly sweet, somewhat spicy, scrumptious snack.

Where

They were! And they’re even more special because they’re not from a restaurant or a store, but you buy them directly from the housewife who made them in her own kitchen.
